Rail traffic: the Trøndelag / Trondheim news after the Telenor outage
On the afternoon of Thursday 8 October, Telenor experienced major problems on its mobile network nationwide. The direct consequence was that all trains in the country came to a halt (NRK Trøndelag / Trondheim). The first train ran again to Trondheim Central Station at 19:45, but traffic has not yet returned to normal.
"It will take some time before all trains are in service and our teams are in place," said Randi Ness, director of communication and marketing at SJ Nord, the operator of the Nordlandsbanen, Trønderbanen and Dovrebanen lines (NRK Trøndelag / Trondheim). "A number of delays can be expected in the evening, but it's good to see the trains coming into the station," she added. Earlier in the day, Randi Ness had described a difficult situation for customers stuck on trains between Bodø and Oslo; many had to find an alternative means of transport.
The outage also made contact with the emergency services more difficult. Operationsleder Trond Hangaas, of the Trøndelag police district, said that a good number of people were nevertheless able to reach the police. "If you cannot get through on 02800, you can try the police district number: 73 89 90 90," he explained, adding that it is also possible to go directly to a police station or to contact the patrols deployed in the field (NRK Trøndelag / Trondheim). In addition, an ongoing strike is leading to the cancellation of more than 800 trains in Norway in the coming days (The Local Norway), prolonging the difficulties for travellers in the county.
